Dan D’Agostino stands out as a highly influential and respected figure in high-end amplifier design over the past half-century. After a successful 29-year tenure as CEO of Krell, the audio company he founded in 1980, D’Agostino established Dan D’Agostino Master Audio Systems (DDMAS) in 2011. His designs have consistently been celebrated for their powerful, high-current solid-state amplification, delivering exceptional dynamics, deep bass, and precise control alongside a remarkably clean and transparent sound achieved through Class A bias.
Today, D’Agostino’s creations under the DDMAS name are instantly recognizable through their visual cues, like distinctive copper heatsinks (chosen for their superior thermal conductivity compared to aluminum) and analog meters reminiscent of Swiss watch faces. Each DDMAS amplifier is meticulously crafted in their Cave Creek, Arizona facility.
While the core DDMAS range, encompassing the Progression, Momentum, and Relentless series, starts at a significant price and extends into luxury car price territory, 2025 brings a new, more accessible integrated amplifier. Stepping outside the established lines, the Pendulum Integrated Amplifier aims to bring D’Agostino’s renowned technologies and design philosophy to a wider audience within the high-end market.
Through clever engineering, the Pendulum achieves a lower price point without sacrificing D’Agostino’s fundamental principles, both inside and out. It features a central circular LCD screen that digitally replicates the analog meters found on other D’Agostino amplifiers, integrated into its robust aluminum chassis with signature copper accents. This LCD is also mirrored on the remote control.
The Pendulum boasts a power supply on par with D’Agostino’s established standards, delivering 120W per channel into 8Ω and doubling to 240W into 4Ω. Sonically, it offers a full-bodied, wide-bandwidth performance while maintaining excellent musical control.
The base Pendulum model includes four analog line-level inputs (three balanced XLR and one unbalanced RCA). Audiophiles can opt for a factory-installed phono stage for moving coil cartridges, and a digital module adds hi-res streaming DAC capabilities with HDMI, optical, Ethernet, and Wi-Fi connectivity.
