Family Style holds a special place in the hearts of guitar enthusiasts. Released in 1990, it is the only studio album to bring together Jimmie and Stevie Ray Vaughan on guitar and vocals.
A sort of spiritual reunion for both brothers, the album was a long-standing desire of Stevie Ray Vaughan. What was intended to become the first of a long-standing musical partnership turned out to be the only one. Stevie passed away in a helicopter crash, right as "Tick Tock" the first single from the album was making its way to the top of the blues music charts.
With slick production by Nile Rogers and no guitarist's ensemble (Double Trouble or the Fabulous Thunderbirds), this is bluesy but not purist. On "White Boots" and "Good Texan," Jimmie makes his vocal debut, and the brothers blur the boundaries between their expected guitar styles.
Dubai Audio pays tribute to Family Style, and the musical genius of the two brothers this week. You can listen to the complete album in our curated playlist, which we update every week.
