THE LUXURY HOME EDIT

World-renowned Architect Gordon Linden on Sound, Luxury, and ‘Master Planning’ Your Home

Introducing The Luxury Home Edit, featuring insights from world-renowned industry professionals and cultural leaders. In our first feature, Dubai Audio invites architect Gordon Linden, a key figure in shaping Dubai's urban landscape to join our dialogue on sound and luxury.

Gordon Linden's illustrious career, spanning over four decades, showcases his expertise on a global scale, blending architecture, urban planning, and international collaboration. His journey includes significant contributions to major events, cultural exchanges, and meticulous orchestration. With qualifications in architecture and planning, Linden brings a wealth of knowledge to the table. His extensive global project involvement, including the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and more, underscores his versatility and comprehensive understanding of diverse contexts.

In a dialogue with Linden, Dubai Audio discovers how sound integrates into the broader architectural context, offering a master planner's perspective on luxury that was greatly shaped by his personal musical journey.

Linden’s Passion for Music

Linden’s enthusiam for the world of music started early on during his school years.  First Linden got familiar with playing the saxophone, but soon, while being in high school formed a band that later turned into the "The El Caminos". The band evolved from performing at local events to numerous gigs with popular stars such as Bobby Freeman who had a national hit with “Do You Wanna Dance?”. Despite the early successes of the band, Linden discovered his interest in architecture, and decided to pursue a career outside of music, however never leaving this passion behind.

Even during his time working in the Middle Eastern region as an urban planner for mega-projects, he dived deep into the music scene of Dubai. Linden collaborated with musician Red from the Old Vic nightclub, that around 2007-2008 was a significant place bringing together local musicians. Linden and Red together created a pop song for the city. “I got to thinking that Dubai, like all big cities, needed a pop song. Think of "Memphis, Tennessee" or "I Left My Heart in San Francisco"” - recalls the memory Linden. Linden “began banging out a tune along with some lyrics about Dubai as a kind of theme for those who were drawn to the promise of a new and better life only to find that things were harder than they'd imagined.” This musical ode, capturing Dubai's aspirations and struggles, reflects a pivotal moment in its dynamic history, and is still available on YouTube to relive.

The Definition of Luxury

Linden's philosophy of sound is deeply influenced by his personal musical journey. When asked about his definition of luxury when it comes to sound, he points out his high standards for audio excellence, studio-like sound quality and an appreciation for seamless technologies. Beyond costly materials, true luxury, according to Linden, equals an artfully crafted environment: “[...] a luxury home as one which manifests the unspoken important dimensions of an artfully crafted environment which are available to the owner who has the necessary resources to make unlimited choices; in other words, freedom of choice.”

Dubai Audio embodies this philosophy, offering a premier selection of world-class audio solutions that redefine luxury through high-fidelity sound, stunning design, and effortless ease of use. In today's tech-driven era, luxury is not about gadgets but about seamless and personalized technology. Linden notes the transformative shift in the technological landscape, emphasizing the timeless quality of experiences that stand out in a crowded market.

Furthermore, Linden’s perspective reflects on how choosing the right audio system involves more than just technology. He states that custom installation is essential to seamlessly integrate high-quality sound into a home, aligning perfectly with the environment and preferences.

Sound and Architecture

When asked about the featured brands of The Luxury Home curation, Linden diffferentiates between aesthetics and functions of various systems and how they can be fitted into the interior of a home. Carefully designed systems, such as Wilson Audio’s Sasha V:

“would best be installed in an environment where the design of the elements can be fully appreciated and not enclosed in cabinets or behind screens.”

On the other hand,

“systems, which have a more conventional appearance, while certainly of highest design calibre might be installed in shelf systems or other furniture where their presence would be hidden until the operator wished to illuminate or "open" the enclosures to reveal the beauty of the equipment.”

- adds Linden.

Sophisticated engineering, masterfully designed to minimize visual distractions, bringing a sleek look to your home. With our custom installation, we operate on a level of precision and experience that creates the perfect alignment between any environment and the desired audio system.
