Irish music group U2 was founded in Dublin in 1976. The members of the ensemble are Adam Clayton on bass guitar, Bono on lead vocals and rhythm guitar, the Edge on lead guitar, keyboards, and backing vocals, and Larry Mullen Jr. on drums and percussion. U2's sound, which was initially influenced by post-punk, has changed over time, but it has always had an epic feel to it thanks to Bono's emotive vocals and the Edge's chiming, effects-driven guitar tones. Bono's lyrics, which are frequently adorned with mystical imagery, center on both social and personal issues. Throughout their history, the trio, who are well-known for their live performances, have put on a number of lavish tours.
