Music Highlight: Throw Down Your Arms

Aug 08, 2023 |

Sinéad O'Connor was many things, an Irish singer, songwriter, political activist, and an ordained priest. She is a producer of many hits, some of which are The Lion and the Cobra, I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got, and Throw Down Your Arms. Her music has been making waves since the early 90s, when her song Nothing Compares 2 U, became the top global hit in 1990 by the Billboard Music Awards.

Just as it is with her music, she pulled no punches when it came to issues like child abuse, racism, mental health and women's rights. Her life was colorful, to say the least.

Throw Down Your Arms was the seventh studio album by Sinéad O'Connor, sometimes referred to as her reggae album. Proceeds from the album sales were donated to assist Jamaican Rastafari elders. Pop Matters, an influential online magazine went on to say -

...her transformative power, her ability to make the music illuminate with a febrile grace, has always been her charm. Some of it shines through here...
