Ian Thornley founded the Canadian hard rock and post-grunge band Thornley in 2002. After Big Wreck, his previous band, broke up, Thornley returned to Toronto and formed the band. Thornley signed a record deal with Chad Kroeger of Nickelback's 604 Records. The band's last lineup as Thornley included guitarist Paulo Neta, bassist Dave McMillan, drummer Christopher Henry, and guitarist Brian Doherty, who had previously played with Big Wreck. This lineup began performing as Big Wreck in 2010.
