Music Highlights: Out Of Season by Beth Gibbons & Rustin Man

Aug 09, 2024 |

Beth Gibbons, the voice of Portishead, teamed up with Paul Webb (formerly known as Talk Talk) for a stripped-down, soulful collaboration called Out of Season. This album marked a departure from their previous work, showcasing a more intimate and introspective sound rooted in folk and jazz. Drawing inspiration from legendary artists like Nina Simone, Billie Holiday, and Nick Drake, Gibbons and Webb created a record that's both deeply personal and universally resonant. It was released on 28 October 2002 in the United Kingdom and on 7 October 2003 in the United States.

Beth Gibbons and Rustin Man's 'Out of Season' is a captivating album blending folk, jazz, and soul, highlighted by Gibbons' haunting vocals and Rustin Man's rich instrumentation. This atmospheric collaboration delivers deeply emotional and introspective tracks, making it essential listening for fans of timeless, genre-defying music. Out of Season also features contributions from Gibbons' fellow Portishead bandmate Adrian Utley and Webb's former bandmate Lee Harris. The album achieved a silver certification from the BPI.
