On the evening of Sunday, 21st September, at Hive JVC, as the light softened and the incense curled into the air, a quiet reverence settled over the room. Resting Sounds had returned for its sixth chapter — this time led by Frezidante, a Dubai-based vinyl collector, hip hop selector, and street culture archivist who has been a part of the UAE’s underground music scene since the late '90s.
This wasn’t just a playlist. It was a live narrative — a journey through the roots of sampling, guided by someone who understands not just where the breaks come from, but how they continue to shape music today.
Analog by Choice: Telling the Story of Hip Hop Through Vinyl
While the system was fully equipped for both digital and analog playback, Frezidante made a clear decision: once the session began, it would be vinyl only. The HiFi Rose RS151 quietly handled background music as guests settled in — but as soon as the first story was ready to be told, the McIntosh MT5 took over.
Every record he cued carried its own narrative: the source of a breakbeat, the origin of a chopped snare, the forgotten track behind a now-iconic sample. Frezidante didn’t just select — he decoded. Offering context between tracks through a mic, he traced a sonic lineage built on rhythm, resistance, and reinvention.
Then came a moment of spontaneity. A guest from the crowd stepped up, took the mic, and dropped a freestyle — a reminder that hip hop has always lived at the intersection of storytelling and participation. This wasn’t performance. It was conversation, history, and homage — pressed to wax and played with care.

The System: Built for Rhythm and Authority
To honour a genre that gave rise to the DJ, we curated a system designed to capture both the grit of breakbeats and the glow of analog warmth. At its core: McIntosh — a name synonymous with musical authority, its iconic blue meters having illuminated the world’s most legendary sound systems.
System Highlights:
• McIntosh C2800 Tube Preamplifier
• McIntosh MC611 Monoblock Amplifiers(x2)
• McIntosh MT5 Precision Turntable
• HiFi Rose RS151 Network Streamer
• Klipsch Cornwall IV Loudspeakers
• Perlisten R12s Subwoofers(x2)
• VL3 Vinyl & Hi-Fi Rack
The Klipsch Cornwall IV, a modern ode to analog’s golden era, delivered the kind of chest-punching impact early hip hop was built on — unfiltered, immediate, alive. Dual Perlisten subwoofers added low-end depth with restraint, shaping the space without overwhelming it. And together, the McIntosh C2800 and MC611s formed a powertrain of nuance and drive — resolving vinyl’s finest textures while preserving the full dynamic force of every groove.

A Legacy Revisited: From Kool Herc to Hive JVC
It felt fitting to feature McIntosh at the center of this session. Hip hop’s earliest parties — from rec centers in the Bronx to block parties across NYC — were driven by systems that could move people and command attention. One of the most iconic among them? DJ Kool Herc’s original rig, famously powered by a McIntosh MC2300 amplifier. More than just a symbol of sonic excellence, McIntosh remains a quiet pillar of hip hop’s origin story — a reminder that before the culture had a name, it had a sound.

A Community-Built Evening
The ecosystem of this event goes far beyond the selector and the system. Project Chaiwala kept the brews flowing. Motion Trading’s incense set the sensory mood. The Workshop DXB created a printed zine that tied the music to something tangible. And Hive JVC, with its co-living architecture and open spirit, once again proved to be the perfect venue for deep listening and shared stories.
About Frezidante
Since moving to Dubai in 1999, Frezidante has played many roles in the region’s creative underground — from pioneering graffiti art to co-founding Tarboosh Records, a label and passion project created with his best friend Amba. Equal parts playful and archival, Tarboosh is where their love of funk, breaks, and hip hop finds space to experiment.
Whether hosting vinyl sampling sessions, spinning rare grooves, or organizing beat battles, Frez brings deep respect and curiosity to everything he touches — and that energy permeated every moment of Resting Sounds #06.
Why It Matters
For over three decades, Dubai Audio has connected listeners with systems that don’t just sound good — they tell the truth. We see our role not just in the technology, but in the cultural moments that bring it to life. Resting Sounds is exactly that: a ritual, a reminder, and a celebration of what happens when sound and story meet in the right space.
