Syng joins Shepard Fairey in his studio to discuss the intersection of art and music, and the influence it’s had on his life and work.

Background

Frank Shepard Fairey is many things - a muralist, a graphic artist and influential figure of the contemporary street art movement. His passion for street art and the graffiti movement shot him to fame when he created "Andre the Giant Has a Posse" campaign - which has gone viral and sold over a million copies over the world. Other commendable work from him include the iconic "Hope" campaign for Obama presidential campaign, Facing the Giant : Three Decades of Dissent and Time Magazine’s Person of the Year cover featuring Greta Thunberg.

Fairey's work infuses elements of graffiti, pop art, business art and Marxist Theory. Punk music, he claims is another major influence behind his art. His work can be seen in the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and the National Portraint Gallery in Washington D.C.
