The first CanJam in the Middle Eastern region was more than just a trade show; it was a gathering of people who truly love their music. We sat down with Andrew Selka from dCS to discuss transparency, the emotional weight of detail, and why a great listening experience feels like a magic trick.

Only The Music
At an event like CanJam, where enthusiasts bring their own headphones and seek the perfect pairing, the most common question Andrew faced was whether dCS equipment sounds warm or cold.
"I have to disappoint them because all our equipment is designed to be as transparent and bring the user as absolutely close to the music as possible," Andrew explained. By removing those colourations, the listener is able to connect with their music in a way that is profound and intimate. The equipment doesn't add flavour; it removes the veils.
The dCS philosophy, summarised by their slogan Only the Music, is about absolute transparency.
The Engineering of Emotion
dCS is world-renowned for pushing technical boundaries, but for Andrew, reducing noise floors is purely in service of the emotional experience. He describes a truly great listening experience as a magic trick where the brain is tricked into believing you are actually there at the original performance.

"What is revealed is a small stratum of musical detail which was hidden below that noise floor," Andrew noted. These details, like the harmonic envelope of different instruments or spatial cues telling you how high the ceiling is, are what create the realism. "Those little details are, I think, what create the realism and enable this teleportation trick," he added.
The Latest Innovation: Lina DAC X
A major highlight of the show was the debut of the Lina DAC X, the latest evolution in the dCS programme. Listeners at the Dubai Audio stand experienced the Lina through a variety of high-end headphones from STAX, Audeze, and HiFiMAN.

Because dCS products are born from a legacy of professional studio recording, they offer a level of configuration that many consumers have not encountered before. Andrew emphasised that "there is a wealth of options and an ability to tune settings," such as a variety of different digital filter settings. This level of sophistication is why having a knowledgeable partner like Dubai Audio is essential to "communicating the message and explaining this to customers".
The Pursuit of the Real
Technical innovation and musicality are not in conflict. "The technical innovations in our products are in service of musicality," Andrew said. "The transparency is what enables the musicality to come through because the musicality is in the music, not in the equipment".
He recalled a moment in the US where he played God Only Knows by the Beach Boys. Within the first few bars, a listener in the audience burst into tears. For Andrew, this is the ultimate validation: "I thought, wow, this is why we do this," he reflected.
Beyond Distribution: A Shared Philosophy
Our partnership with dCS is defined by a mutual obsession with transparency. We do not believe in adding artificial warmth or masking a recording; we believe in providing the instruments that allow you to hear a performance in its purest state.

A system this sophisticated requires more than a showroom - it requires a partner who respects the technical legacy of the studio. By bringing dCS to the Middle East, we are ensuring that the region’s most discerning listeners have access to the absolute benchmark of musical transparency.
