Fyne Audio F501SP Overview

The Special Production F501SP is a UK built version of the award-winning F501 loudspeaker. Building on the outstanding sonic performance and aesthetics of the original model, the F501SP benefits extensively from technology developed for the premium F700 Series.

The IsoFlare point source driver uses a 150mm (6”) multi-fibre bass / midrange cone with FyneFlute surround, coupled with the 25mm magnesium dome compression tweeter. With an upgraded crossover to seamlessly integrate the drivers with the F501 cabinet, the SP adds Fyne Audio’s signature aluminium sandwich plinth to enhance stability and further refine the BassTrax downward firing porting system.

The connection panel has also been upgraded and features a fifth terminal to ground the driver chassis and reduce the influence of RF interference in the circuit. Celebrating this UK Special Production with enhanced cosmetics, the F501SP benefits from diamond machine cut detailing on the aluminium driver chassis, an anodised machined aluminium plinth and the option of a Piano Gloss Walnut real wood veneer finish.

Audio Research I/50 Overview

The I/50 Integrated Amplifier is the first product in an all-new series from Audio Research. Functionally simple, visually engaging, and musically sublime – the I/50 takes music listening to a whole new experience. Hand-crafted in Minnesota, the I/50 is built with the same attention to detail as all other Audio Research products – each one even gets its own listening test with sonic designer, Warren Gehl. Available in six colors, the I/50 features Cerakote finishes for a beautiful and long-lasting look. The modular design allows for the installation of two audio modules – a Phono Stage, and a D/A Converter (to come in 2022). The high current, 50 watt per channel amplifier is capable of driving a wide variety of speakers. A headphone jack allows for personal listening time.

The I/50 is designed to be easy to use, and has three controls on its top panel – Power, Input, and Volume. Two LexieTubes® provide display information for input selection and volume. Two matched pairs of 6550WE vacuum tubes, along with three 6922 tubes, stand in front of the perforated transformer cover. Three single-ended inputs and one XLR input provide connectivity for most systems, along with 4- and 8- Ohm speaker taps to accommodate your speaker of choice. One input can be assigned for pass-through function. A full-function metal remote control provides further functionality and operation. An optional tube cage will be available.

As with all Audio Research products, the I/50 is built entirely in our Minnesota facility by a team of skilled technicians and expert craftspeople. Offered in six colors, the I/50 is the first product completely finished in-house. The Audio Research finishing lab encompasses a purpose-built painting facility and laser imaging and marking machines to produce a luxurious finish normally found only on much more expensive products. The Cerakote finish is not only beautiful, but designed to be enduring and easy to maintain.

The performance of the amplifier belies its compact design. 50 watts of all-vacuum tube power energize your speakers with beautiful and lifelike music. Designed by the Audio Research engineering team and fine-tuned by Warren Gehl, the I/50 has been given the same level of care and attention as our Reference Series products. The ability of the I/50 to reconstruct a musical experience will thrill and excite all who hear it. Thanks to the substantial power supply and high current design, the I/50 provides controlled and dynamic playback – even on challenging speakers. The Phono module provides 42 dB of gain, allowing a wide choice of moving magnet and high-output moving coil cartridges. The D/A Converter will have multiple connection options and an array of decoding formats to accommodate the wide spectrum of music formats and resolutions. The I/50 is a truly integrated product while providing renowned Audio Research performance and sound quality.

Hifi Rose RS250A Overview
The new RS250A features an upgraded DAC, opamps and word clock. The chassis gets an upgrade too, as it is now available in silver or black. With a large touchsreen display, terrific user interface, and the ability to operate the RS250A with a remote one can fully configure and operate this network music streamer without a tablet or phone. The RoseApp is available for iOS and Android devices, and is also super intuitive to use. There are a ton of features and connectivity options with the RS250A as well. One can use it as a streaming DAC with volume control, driving a pair of powered speakers, or monoblock amps. Or use your own preamp for a full analog volume control. Last there is the option to use the RS250 as as a streamer only, keeping one’s existing preamp and DAC in the system.

The Streamer
The streamer can connect via Ethernet or Wi-fi. It has a powerful Hexa Core CPU with an Android based operating system. This also means you have compatibility with Android AND iOS devices. One can add up to 4tb of internal storage, connect an external drive via USB, or access your music library on your home network’s NAS.

The DAC
The RS250A uses a new DAC and clock with proprietary processing that offers a low-noise, low-distortion, ultra-high-resolution sound with rich analog density. Sampling rates go up to PCM 32bit/768KHz and native DSD512 (22.5792Mhz). In addition, there are 5 filters one can choose from for tailoring the sound to one’s individual preference if using the Ethernet input. The USB input is limited to just one filter however. Additionally, oversampling can be implemented as well if desired.

Linear Power Supply
The RS250A is designed with a low-noise toroidal linear power supply. Something that is difficult to find at this price point.

Flexibility
One thing we found very interesting about the HiFi Rose products is the ability to set the analog output voltage. There is of course the variable setting if one wishes to use as a volume control. But there are several fixed settings one can use to optimize the gain for ones preamplifier or amp.
