Overview
The Sonus faber Olympica Nova I Bookshelf Speakers are a triumph of compact high-fidelity, embodying the elegance and acoustic excellence of the Olympica Nova series. These exquisite 2-way speakers are meticulously handcrafted in Italy, designed to bring Sonus faber’s renowned “Natural Sound” to more intimate listening spaces.
Housed within the iconic asymmetrical lute-shaped cabinet—crafted from eight layers of bent wood and finished with luxurious leather or high-gloss wood veneers—the Olympica Nova I minimizes resonance while maximizing sonic purity. Its advanced driver complement includes a 28mm D.A.D.™ tweeter for extended, detailed highs and a 150mm natural fiber mid-woofer for transparent, engaging midrange and surprisingly deep, articulate bass.
The innovative “Stealth Ultraflex” port, integrated into the rear curve of the cabinet, enhances bass performance while allowing for flexible room placement. A sophisticated “Paracross Topology” crossover ensures seamless driver integration and a wide, precise soundstage. The Olympica Nova I is more than just a speaker; it’s a piece of functional art that delivers a remarkably coherent, dynamic, and emotionally rich listening experience, truly exceeding expectations for its size.
WOOD & LEATHER
Just like the cabinet sides, the front baffle and the top are made in the walnut or wenge hand-finished natural wood, set in a solid die-cast aluminium plate. Our designers wished to pay homage to the most representative material of Sonus Faber, making it even more of a standard-bearer. The natural leather embellishes the Voice of Sonus Faber, the brand's iconic configuration of tweeter and midrange and enriches the aesthetic rings around the woofers. Genuine Italian leather that, as per our brand's tradition, is applied by hand in the production department in Vicenza.
TWEETER, MIDRANGE & WOOFER
The 28mm silk soft dome tweeter features the DAD technology (Damped Apex Dome) that enhances the smoothness and extension in the high frequency by applying local dampening to the apex typically responsible for anti-phase behaviour of soft dome diaphragms. The DAD structure has been totally redesigned; a solid piece of aluminium die-cast includes both arch and ring on the dome to increase the strength and accuracy of the system. The midrange is completely designed and developed in Sonus Faber laboratories. Its cone is realised cooperating with Kurtmueller and represents the most advanced stage of the traditional Sonus Faber recipe: an air dried non pressed blend of cellulose pulp and other natural fibres: kapok and kenaf. This natural drying process gives the diaphragm a slightly rough surface of varying density and contributes damping and distributing cone resonances while guaranteeing a natural sound, increased transparency and details. The precious phase plug enhances the mid-hi frequencies emission while proudly stating that the Olympica Nova collection is made in Italy. The woofer cone has been developed in cooperation with Kurtmueller and it's based on an exclusive sandwich construction technique: two external layers of cellulose pulp are combined with a layer of hi-tech syntactic foam in between. This low mass and hi rigidity cone construction allows for a perfect reproduction of the low frequencies while guaranteeing absolute tonal coherence with the midrange. This transducer is assembled in Italy.
REFLEX PORT
The solid piece of extruding aluminium that completes the Stealth Ultraflex system, an extremely low-turbulence porting system, is inherited from Homage Tradition models. Favouring the profile of sea waves, the structure facilitates airflow through the duct while controlling its speed and reducing the distortion-causing turbulence.
CROSSOVER
The crossover network implements Paracross Topology, making the crossover less sensitive to radio-frequency interference, improving transient response and lowering noise floor. The filtering topology features new exclusive Clarity Cap capacitors, customised for Sonus Faber.
STRUCTURAL RIGIDITY & SUPPORTS
Similar to the Homage Tradition and Reference Collections, the walls are made with eight layers of blended wood, providing the cabinet with extreme rigidity. Inside the cabinet, carefully placed structural ribs are used as reinforcement to reduce vibration and to handle the overall power of the transducers movement. The bookshelf model has been designed with the new custom Aluminium extruded stand that features a cable guide, to hide the power cable in the column.

The loudspeakers do not require any special maintenance except for periodic general cleaning. To preserve the finish of the loudspeakers, protect them with the supplied fabric covers, especially if they are not used for a prolonged period of time. Remember to not use cleaning products, furniture waxes, cleaning liquids or alcohol that could stain or damage the wood or the speakers. Do not use rough cloths. To clean the wooden part of the cabinet and the leather parts, use a soft cloth (such as a microfiber) just moistened at the most, taking care not to dampen the drivers. To clean and prevent the gaskets of the drivers from the hardening, you may use a silicon-based product and carefully apply it by using a soft cloth. Wood is a natural and always alive material, therefore sensitive to external agents. Avoid positioning the loudspeakers near heat sources or near windows, especially during the summer months. Do not leave the speakers exposed to direct sunlight. To remove the dust from the cabinet, the front panels and/or the speakers, we recommend using a soft brush paying much attention not to damage the delicate membranes of the speakers.
The choice of amplification always depends on personal tastes. Also the environment, where the loudspeakers are installed, is an important variable to consider. All loudspeakers have been designed and developed to guarantee an ideal balance between volumes and sound, consequently each speaker is made on the basis of a unique electroacoustic project exclusively dedicated to the specific model. The inclined bases of the speakers are an integral part of the electroacoustic design as they provide the right inclination of the speakers to ensure an optimal reproduction. For this reason, we recommend that you do not change the inclination. Furthermore, it is not possible to upgrade the loudspeaker components as it would modify their electroacoustic design. By changing a driver, the whole crossover should be re-designed that is to say developing a new speaker.
