"When the fundamentals of design are largely right, improvements may be attained by attention to small details. An accumulation of small gains then results in significant overall benefits."
Martin Colloms , HIFICRITIC (from his WATT/Puppy 8 review, 2007)
The WATT/Puppy
Introducing a remastering to one of, if not the most, iconic loudspeaker designs: The WATT/Puppy. Inspired by the original WATT/Puppy’s legacy, the development of this instantly recognizable design began with a hopeful vision: to create a WATT/Puppy that would honor the original designer by utilizing current technologies and innovations refined for more than 50 years. Simply put, to build a WATT/Puppy that Dave Wilson would have built if he had the resources then that Wilson Audio now possesses.
Material DNA
The original WATT/Puppy underwent a total of eight evolutions from 1986-2011. These eight iterations utilized a variety of materials, each strategically integrated and available during their respective development periods. Each evolution of material usage pushed the boundaries of what was achievable in loudspeaker capabilities at the time.
In the early years, Puppy enclosures employed a laminated 60-lbs version of High-Density Fiberboard (HDF), while the WATT incorporated Polymethyl Methacrylate (PMMA).
Get a Grip
The rod handle on the rear of the original WATT was initially designed in 1985 as a practical way for David Wilson, founder of Wilson Audio and a recording engineer at the time, to transport his custom-made studio monitors to recording sessions. This functional and robust handle has since evolved for The WATT/Puppy. The current design is stylized for a secure and comfortable grasp at any angle. Similar to the original WATT handle, the new handle effortlessly supports the weight of the WATT during transportation and installation.
The Best Materials
The material to which a driver is mounted provides the “launchpad” for cone excursions. Years of empirical listening trials and
materials testing, most recently with Wilson’s Laser Vibrometer, have shown that different materials provide optimum baffles for different drivers. Wilson’s proprietary composite, X-Material, is the ideal material for woofers and tweeters. The research surrounding the original Sasha led to the development of S-Material, designed specifically to increase midrange accuracy and beauty.
Wilson Audio remains at the cutting edge in the world of enclosure composite development. Using the most sophisticated test
equipment, not least of which is the human ear, Wilson’s team has raised the bar again with the Sasha DAW. The team’s attention to detail and nuanced approach to enclosure design contributes substantially to Sasha’s unique blend of resolution, dynamic contrast, timbrel accuracy, and musical beauty.

1. FINE-TUNE YOUR SYSTEM USING THE WILSON AUDIO SETUP PROCEDURE
A useful video if your local authorized dealer didn’t set-up your Wilson Audio Speakers. This video tutorial provides a step-by-step process enabling the system to perform as well as the speakers, components, and room allow. Here is the link to our official WASP video tutorial:
2. KEEP YOUR SPEAKER CONTACTS CLEAN AND SEATED PROPERLY
Use a micro-abrasive jewelry cloth to clean the contacts on both your speaker cables and binding posts. Research shows that a cleaner signal path yields better sonic results. The sound also improves when the binding posts make complete contact with the lugs.
3. CHANGE THE RESISTORS ON YOUR LOUDSPEAKER ANNUALLY
Wilson Audio likens changing the resistors in your loudspeakers to a tune-up for your automobile. Extended listening sessions with elevated SPLs can degrade the performance of your resistors over time. Depending on how loud and often you listen to your speakers, or if you notice a degradation in the output of one or more drivers, we recommend changing the resistors approximately once a year or when needed. You can contact us for official Wilson Audio Parts & Accessoroies and find replacement resistors for your Wilson Audio speaker.
4. DISTANCE YOUR ELECTRONICS AND CABLES FROM HIGH-FREQUENCY TRANSMITTERS
We have found that having your components near a high-frequency transmitter (i.e. Wi-Fi router, cellphone, etc.) can degrade the signal quality in electronics and cables. The results are a loss in sonic fidelity.
5. LEVEL YOUR LOUDSPEAKER
Level your loudspeaker to get better performance. You can do this by placing a bubble level on one of the speaker's flat surfaces and adjusting the spike assemblies until level. Here is the link to our official Wilson Audio speaker leveling video tutorial:
